I was worried it would be too thin, but it isn't. I was worried about this, but it's very nice. I think they should have adjusted the output somehow on those S's I think there is more color or something in the uncovered pickups. I really think the Carvin uncovered pickups sound better than the S series. I really think you could hand this guitar to a metal shred guy, a classic rock player, a country guy, or a blues/jazz guy, and all of them would be able to dial in nice, classic tones. I mean, all guitars sound different, but I had this fear that the guitar would be banjo-thin and twangy, and it just isn't. It's splitting hairs to find big differences with my other guitars so far, though, to be honest. It's not Les Paul range dark, but I really have to say that overall it has a better balanced tone and a bit more range than most of the LPs I've played, which can get a bit muddy or spongy on the low end. Still experimenting rh, but so far, it's excellent. You did it! Congrats! How does it play/sound? I'll post more when I have more chance to play it. The tweed case I ordered seems very, very solid, and it's plush, and the guitar is nicely protected in there.

I've heard people complain about the cases. The pots don't taper as gradually as on my other guitars. No A/B comparisons yet with my other guitars. It has real, classic rock/electric guitar tone/twang on the bridge and middle positions, and the split sounds are quite nice. It's warm without being muddy on the neck pickup. It's on the bright side, but not overly so. Plugged in, I find the guitar to have a very rich tonal pallette. Tone: only about an hour or so of playing. Nothing all that bad, although I'd like to be able to get rid of the poly overspray. There are a few grainy pores in the ebony board. There is some white filler material in some of the grain pores in the mahogany neck. There are a few minor physical blemishes: there is a small area of overspray of poly on the tung oiled neck, on the side of the headstock. First the pics, then specs and other info:Īs you can see, it's gorgeous, and exactly the classic look I was after. I was after an understated, classic look, like and old piece of furniture.
